Meet Polly

Polly Liston-Caley is an Administration Team Coordinator at Utility Stream and is undertaking the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship.

What’s the best thing about being an apprentice?

“The best thing about being an apprentice is that I’ve had an opportunity to learn new skills and I’m able to put what I’ve learnt into action in the workplace. Since starting the apprenticeship, I have learnt about
different theories that I would have never used to help my team process. The support from Mercuri has been great which has helped massively.”

How would you say apprentices help employers?

“Apprentices help employers as they’re allowing their employees to grow within their roles and train colleagues where necessary. The business gains new ideas and further experience in managing teams more effectively. Apprentices gives companies opportunities to grow their company with knowledge and more experience in different areas of the business.”

Can you share with us your thoughts on becoming a Mercuri Ambassador?

Meet Nicola

Nicola Ellis is a Nursery Assistant at Elmstead Nursery and is currently undertaking the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.

What’s the best thing about being an apprentice?

“Being a Mercuri apprentice has enabled me to put theory into practice. I have been able to develop my skills and gain vital hands-on experience whilst working alongside a very experienced team which has proved invaluable. The apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my confidence and self-belief to make decisions for myself and to understand that each day brings a different challenge. Together with both theory and practical activities, I feel I have had an extremely well-balanced course that has been supported by both my manager and Mercuri tutor.”

How would you say apprentices help employers?

“I think that apprentices help employers build a team that ultimately work together towards the same goal, tailoring the various skills and ethos that are specific to their organization. They help to promote motivation and commitment to others, whilst also bringing fresh ideas to the workplace. This can be an important factor to keep up to date with our forever evolving society.”

Why polly

“Polly leads by example with her team and demonstrates fantastic time management skills by prioritizing work responsibilities, alongside managing her small team. Whilst also completing her
apprenticeship learning and collation of evidence to show her knowledge, skills, and behaviours within her working week. It’s great to see that Polly is instilling this newfound learning into her role as a Team Leader Supervisor and sharing her newfound knowledge and skills with her team so that they are also able to reap the benefits of the apprenticeship.”

Amanda Mort, Mercuri Learning & Development Coach

why nicola

“Nicola is very proactive within her apprenticeship and will strive to complete all work to an exceptional standard, her work is submitted ahead of time, plus providing this to the best of her ability. Nicola is very good at linking the knowledge to her reflection to practice and this then establishes her under pinning knowledge, through conducting the course this has allowed Nicola to continue her professional development to improve her knowledge skills and behaviours and to become a qualified Early Years Educator.”

Sarah-Louise Bell, Mercuri Learning & Development Coach

“Polly has been amazing as not only has she embarked upon her apprenticeship during the current energy crisis, which has been an unprecedented period for the industry, she’s also bought her first home ! It’s great to see Polly use her learning and grow into her new role with the added confidence that the apprenticeship brings. Finally, during such a demanding period for UK businesses it’s essential that companies continue to invest in their employees and I’m pleased that, in partnership with Mercuri, we’ve been able to support Polly’s development.”

Mark Edwards, Managing Director, Utility Stream

Utility stream

Located in the heart of Warwick, Utility Stream Ltd is working with organisations nationwide to manage all elements of their utilities through intelligent energy solutions.

“Nicola joined Elmstead Nursery just over 3 years ago. Immediately she showed her enthusiasm for the job and a willingness to learn. She quickly became a very valued member of the team, working hard and being a natural with the children. She took on the role of SENCO and studied for the Early Years SENCO qualification and has excelled in her practice. I am sure she will complete her Early Years Educator apprenticeship with flying colours. She puts great effort into everything she does and this, combined with her natural abilities, means that she has enjoyed success in this area of work. The qualifications she is gaining formally acknowledges this as she puts the theory into excellent practice. I have very high hopes for her future career in childcare. We feel very fortunate to have Nicola as part of our staff team. She is a pleasure to work with.”
